![]() Sadly, what lies under that forgiving, kind face are suppressed emotions, pain and sadness bottled up inside. (actual quote from the anime) This single trait would be the determining factor that would help her eventually save the entire Soma family and bring joy and happiness to them. She could probably see a robber in her house, invite him for tea and ask him about his life story. However, by proxy it means that she is also extremely loving, caring and polite to anyone she meets. This becomes a running gag throughout the whole anime, and honestly I found no problem with that! For things that most would consider no big deal, she will instantly beg for forgiveness as if she had commited a crime that would end humanity. To outsiders and even the Soma's for a long time, Tohru is an average, slightly generic looking high school teenager who is apologetic by nature. This seemingly ordinary girl is one of the single most important assets to this entire story, she is truly a spectacle. The amount of hatred, conflict, anger and sadness locked away in their hearts is just, saddening to watch. Without further ado, let's get to some of the highlights.Īlso, I just want to add that the Soma's are one of the most dysfunctional and saddest families I have ever seen in fiction. I still disliked some characters despite the show's best efforts, which is normal! Whether they were intentionally written to be unlikable or by my own interpretation, it's all fine as no show is perfect. Everyone, not only the 13 main Soma's, but also Tohru's friends, minor characters such as her classmates, and even a school teacher.?įruits Basket truly pulled out all the stops to ensure that nobody on your screen becomes a boring, generic stereotype. Yes, this show uses a lot of flashbacking and storytelling to deepen the importance of nearly everyone featured. I have never, and I repeat never seen this amount of character depth featured in every single character in this entire show! Save for a few particular people, this show did possibly the best job of portraying truly real humans with real emotion, and with very real backstories. Man, these characters are truly something else. #Fruits basket click and drag freeNo worries about the following spoilers though, feel free to read it! I made sure not to put any dark or graphic content in there. If you're going to, make sure you're fully prepared to handle what is coming. Do not watch this if you're too young for it. Don't make the same mistake as I did, going into this thinking it'd be sunshine and rainbows. !! MAJOR ANIME WARNING: This show features extremely dark subject matters such as self-harm, sewer slide, murder, depression, abuse, the list goes on. The amount of tragedy that happens in this one show really emphasises the drama aspect, which is it's greatest strength! I cannot stress how much this anime broke me, how many tears I almost shed, and how complex it truly is. That was the biggest weight just lifted off my shoulders, gosh. In the present day, I still only really watched it because of it's animal gimmick, but this time I was determined to finish it.Īnd after about a week of watching, I have. I actually first watched Fruits Basket back in 2019 due to thinking " haha funny animal curse" and nothing else, watched 2 episodes and gave up due to how intense it actually was. Hiding under the facade of a regular cutesy rom-com, are many layers of depth, pain, darkness and secrets. Both in terms of it's monstrous length, and the actual content of the episodes themselves. This singular anime was one of the hardest shows I think I have ever watched in my entire life. It's been a while, welcome back everyone! Wow. With 63 24-minute episodes spanning 3 very long seasons, this gives us an estimated runtime of 24 hours! Fruits Basket (Furuba in Japanese) is a drama, fantasy, romance anime produced by TMS Entertainment, which ran from April 2019 to June 2021. ![]()
